Additional information

Key study: experimental results from a study report, according to Part C.4-C of the EC Commission Directive 92/69/EEC and in the OECD Guideline 301B. Results showed that:

- The reference substance sodium benzoate was degraded by 81.2 % within 10 days.

- Degradation in the toxicity control, which contained sodium benzoate and the test substance, was not indicative of an inhibition of the microbial activity by the test substance.

- The carbon dioxide evolution from Zirkonium-tetrakis(isobutyrate) with a nominal concentration of 15 mg Carbon/L reached a maximum of 87.5 % after 28 days of incubation at 22.8 ± 0.3 °C, i. e. the substance was degraded within 28 d. The percentage degradation of the test substance exceeded 60 % within ten days of first reaching 10 %.

It is concluded that Zirkonium-tetrakis(isobutyrato) is readily biodegradable.
