First-aid measures

Description of first aid measures
General advice:
Move out of dangerous area. Call a physician or poison control centre immediately. Show this safety data sheet to the doctor in attendance. Symptoms of poisoning may appear several hours later. Do not leave the victim unattended.
Protection of first-aiders:
If it is suspected that fumes are still present, the rescuer should wear an appropriate mask or self-contained breathing apparatus.
It may be dangerous to the person providing aid to give mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.
No action shall be taken involving any personal risk or without suitable training.

If inhaled
:
Get medical attention immediately.
Move the victim to fresh air.
Cortisone spray should be inhaled immediately after inhalation of the substance to prevent toxic pulmonary oedema.
Take victim immediately to hospital.
Loosen tight clothing such as a collar, tie, belt or waistband.
If breathing is labored, administer oxygen.
If unconscious, place in recovery position and seek medical advice.
Maintain open airway.
If not breathing, if breathing is irregulor or respiratory arrest occurs, provide artifical respiration, or oxygen by a trained professional, using a pocket type respirator.
In case of skin contact
:
Remove contaminated clothing and shoes.
Chemical burns must be treated promptly by a physician.
Wash the skin immediately with plenty of soap and water; cleaning immediately with polyethylene glycol 400 and wash-ing subsequently with plenty of soap and water would be more effective.
If Polyethylene Glycol 400 is not available, wash immediately with soap and plenty of cold water.
Wash skin immediately with plenty of soap and water even when contact with the product is suspected.
In case of eye contact
:
Small amounts splashed into eyes can cause irreversible tis-sue damage and blindness.
Call a physician immediately.
Irrigate copiously with clean, fresh water for at least 10 minutes, holding the eyelids apart.
Protect unharmed eye.
Remove contact lenses.
If swallowed
:
Chemical burns must be treated promptly by a physician.
Do not induce vomiting without medical advice.
Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.
Rinse mouth with water.

Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed
Risks
:
Harmful if swallowed.
Toxic in contact with skin.
May cause an allergic skin reaction.
Causes serious eye damage.
Fatal if inhaled.
May cause respiratory irritation.
Causes severe burns.
Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed
Treatment
:
Basic aid, decontamination, symptomatic treatment. Treat with a corticoid metered aerosol depending on the amount inhaled. If appropriate symptoms occur or inhalation of large quantities is suspected, administer cortisone intravenously in addition The exposed person may need to be kept under medical sur-veillance for 48 hours.

Fire-fighting measures

Firefighting measures
5.1 Extinguishing media
Suitable extinguishing media
:
Use water spray, alcohol-resistant foam, dry chemical or car-bon dioxide.
Unsuitable extinguishing media
:
High volume water jet
5.2 Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture
Specific hazards during fire-fighting
:
Evolution of CO2 in closed containers causes overpressure and produces a risk of bursting.
Hazardous combustion prod-ucts
:
Carbon dioxide (CO2)
Carbon monoxide
Nitrogen oxides (NOx)
Halogenated compounds
5.3 Advice for firefighters
Special protective equipment for firefighters
:
Wear self-contained breathing apparatus for firefighting if nec-essary.
Further information
:
Collect contaminated fire extinguishing water separately. This must not be discharged into drains.
Fire residues and contaminated fire extinguishing water must be disposed of in accordance with local regulations.
Use a water spray to cool fully closed containers.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures
Personal precautions:
Use personal protective equipment.
Ensure adequate ventilation.
Evacuate personnel to safe areas.
Environmental precautions
Environmental precautions:
Prevent product from entering drains.
Prevent further leakage or spillage if safe to do so.
If the product contaminates rivers and lakes or drains inform respective authorities.

Methods and material for containment and cleaning up
Methods for cleaning up
:
Stop leak if safe to do so.
Use spark-proof tools and explosion-proof equipment.
Contaminated absorbent material may pose the same hazard as the spilled product.
Clean-up methods - small spillage
Take up with a moist, liquid-binding material (e.g. sand, saw-dust or chemical binder based on hydrated calcium silicate) and treat carefully with diluted ammonia solution.
Do not firmly seal waste containers (risk of CO2 generation!).
Once the reaction is fully complete, pass on to disposal facili-ties.
Dispose of wastes in an approved waste disposal facility.
Clean-up methods - large spillage
Do not allow into the sewerage system, surface waters or groundwater or into the soil.
Collect spillage.
Soak up with inert absorbent material (e.g. sand, silica gel, acid binder, universal binder, sawdust).
Do not firmly seal waste containers (risk of CO2 generation!).
Dispose of wastes in an approved waste disposal facility.
Carefully decompose residues with an aqueous ammonia solution.

Handling and storage

Precautions for safe handling
Technical measures:
The product is registered with strictly controlled conditions as defined in Article 17(3) or 18(4) of regulation (EC) no. 1907/2006 (REACH Regulation) and must therefore be han-dled as such. Refer to the industry guidance prepared by Concawe/Cefic/EFCG for advice on the confirmation of strictly controlled conditions.
Advice on safe handling:
Avoid formation of aerosol.
Avoid inhalation of vapour or mist.
Avoid contact with skin and eyes.
For personal protection see section Exposure Controls.
Smoking, eating and drinking should be prohibited in the ap-plication area.
Provide sufficient air exchange and/or exhaust in work rooms.
Container may be opened only under exhaust ventilation hood.
Dispose of rinse water in accordance with local and national regulations.
Persons susceptible to skin sensitisation problems or asthma, allergies, chronic or recurrent respiratory disease should not be employed in any process in which this mixture is being used.
Advice on protection against fire and explosion:
Keep away from open flames, hot surfaces and sources of ignition.
Hygiene measures:
Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing. When using do not eat or drink. When using do not smoke. Wash hands before breaks and immediately after handling the product.
Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities
Requirements for storage areas and containers:
Ensure effective ventilation. Make sure all pipelines, tanks and equipment are leakproof. Vent waste air only via suitable sep-arators or scrubbers. Prevent unauthorized access. No smok-ing. Keep container tightly closed in a dry and well-ventilated place. Containers which are opened must be carefully re-sealed and kept upright to prevent leakage. Observe label precautions. Electrical installations / working materials must comply with the technological safety standards.
Storage class (TRGS 510):
6.1A, Combustible, acute toxic Cat. 1 and 2 / very toxic haz-ardous materials
Further information on stor-age stability:
No decomposition if stored and applied as directed.
Specific end use(s)
Specific use(s):
