Description of key information

EC No. 271-877-7 has been studied in acute oral, dermal and inhalation studies in appropriate species. No toxicity was observed at the highest dose tested by any route. The lowest oral LD50 value in rat established was > determined to be 5000 mg/kg. The lowest dermal LD50 value was determined in rabbit to be > 5000 mg/kg. No toxicity was observed in inhalation studies at the highest concentration that could be tested, 1.9 mg/L in a 4 hour study.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Representative alkylbenzene sulfonate salts do not meet the criteria set out in Directive 67/548/EEC and also Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 for classification for acute oral, dermal or inhalation toxicity. Classification of EC No. 271 -877 -7 is not considered to be necessary based on chemical similarity to those representative substances.
