Additional information

The key study for skin irritation, conducted according to OECD 404 and in compliance with GLP, grade 1 erythema was observed in 2 male rabbits up to 72 hour observation and in one male rabbit up to 24 hours. Skin induration was noted in 2 animals. It was concluded that triethylsilane is not irritating to skin following semi-occlusive exposure for 4 hours (LPT, 2002b).

In the key study for eye irritation, conducted according to OECD 405 and in compliance with GLP, triethylsilane was found to be not irritating to rabbit eyes following a single instillation in the eyes of three female rabbits (LPT, 2002c).

The skin and eye irritation tests on analogue substance, tetramethylsilane (CAS 75-76-3) are included in support of the read-across justification, as data for this substance are used as key data for skin sensitisation, repeated dose toxicity, genetic toxicity and toxicity to reproduction.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on the available in vivo data, triethylsilane does not require classification for skin or eye irritation according to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008.
