Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Melting point [decachlorotetrasilane]: - 28°C

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Melting / freezing point at 101 325 Pa:
-28 °C

Additional information

A melting point value of -28°C was determined in a reliable study conducted according to an appropriate test protocol. The study was not conducted according to GLP.

Two thermal stability studies are selected as supporting studies. In one study, an exothermic reaction was observed at 103°C during a thermal stability test using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The study was well documented and meets generally accepted scientific principles and was conducted in compliance with a known quality system (ISO 17025). However, as the substance hydrolyses very rapidly in the presence of moisture, it cannot be excluded that the observed result was attributable to the decomposition of small amounts of the hydrolysate formed on contact with atmospheric moisture during sample preparation. In the second study, decomposition was observed at approximately 100°C.
