Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The EC50 for algae (Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata) is 2.96 µg Pd L-1 (growth rate) and the NOEC is 1.33 µg Pd L-1 (growth rate).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Pd(IV) will not remain in biological and environmental systems due to its inherent instability, ease of reduction to Pd(II) and its ability to reductively form strong complexes with organic nitrogen and sulphur-containing moieties. Therefore, ecotoxicity results are read across from palladium(II) to palladium(IV) substances. For palladium substances, the available ecotoxicity data indicates that substances with a chloro ligand are more toxic than those with no chloro ligand. As this substance has a chloro ligand, it is appropriate to read across ecotoxicity results from diamminedichloropalladium. The EC50 for algae (Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata) determined for diamminedichloropalladium is 2.96 µg Pd L-1 (growth rate) and the NOEC is 1.33 µg Pd L-1 (growth rate) (Wenzel 2012). The results were determined in a study following OECD guideline 201, with five test concentrations. Test concentrations were analysed by ICP-MS and test results were based on mean measured concentrations.
