Discussion:

The viscosity determination was not performed at the recommended temperature of 20°C due to the nature of the test item. At a temperature of 40°C, it is possible that the test item could lose a small amount of solvent/test item liquor by evaporation and this in turn could significantly increase the test item viscosity. The test item temperature was therefore decreased so that the viscosity value could be obtained at a lower temperature that is 20°C apart.

Conclusions:
Viscosity values of 1050000 (mPa.s) at 10.0 ± 0.5°C and 957000 (mPa.s) at 30.0 ± 0.5°C were determined in a reliable study conducted according to OECD 114, and in compliance with GLP.

Additional information

Several reliable viscosity results are available for the registered substance. Dynamic viscosity values of 1.36E+5 mPa.s, 1.05E+6 mPa.s and 1.48E+7 mPa.s at 10°C were determined for the registered substance. At 30°C, the measured viscosity values are 9.83E+4 mPa.s, 9.57E+5 mPa.s and 8.29E+6 mPa.s. The results are obtained using a rotational viscometer in accordance with OECD Test Guideline 114 and in compliance with GLP. The results are considered to be reliable and are used as weight of evidence.

In another study conducted in accordance with ISO 3104, viscosity values of 3200 at 21°C, 2100 mPa.s at 60°C and 2000 mPa. s at 70°C were determined for the registered substance.

In addition, viscosity of 7000 centistokes at 80°F (26.7°C) was reported for sample of the registered substance.

All available results are consistent to indicate that the registered substance is a viscous liquid.

Tall Oil Soap is a UVCB substance. The viscosity of the substance varies widely depending on the composition, nature and concentration of black liquor present in the samples tested.
