EC number: 300-212-6 | CAS number: 93924-19-7 Hollow ceramic spheres formed as a part of the ash in power stations burning pulverized coal. Composed primarily of the oxides of aluminium, iron and silicon and contain carbon dioxide and nitrogen within the sphere.

Based on chemical structure, flammability on ignition, pyrophoricity, flammability on contact with water, and self-heating properties are not expected.
In ashes (residues), cenospheres the elements are in their highest oxidation state and incapable for further reaction with oxygen.
Justification for classification or non-classification
The available data on flammability of the test substance do not meet the criteria for classification according to Regulation (EC) 1272/2008, and are therefore conclusive but not sufficient for classification. The substance is not combustible therefore not considered to be classified as flammable solid or as pyrophoric.
