Green liquor sludge is solid non volatile inorganic alkaline UVCB substance. Manufactured fresh substance may typically contain 40 -50% water. (Dry weigtht to wet weight conversation in the year 2010 reference samples: dry matter 46,7%, water 53.3%)
In drying it stabilises and hardens through adsorbing CO2 from the atmosphere (carbonisation). GLS has no melting or boiling point and it decomposes if heated. Solubility in water is always a substance specific issue. Normally fresh GLS has high solubility in water and the solubility is much lower for stabilised substances, after soluble Ca(OH)2 is transformed to poorly soluble CaCO3. Depending on composition and stabilisation conditions, GLS is solid (stony) mineral or more or less dusty powder. GLS may contain elemental and organic carbon. GLS is not explosive or flammable. Normally GLS does not burn or burns only in the presence of auxiliary fuel.Information on Registered Substances comes from registration dossiers which have been assigned a registration number.
