Description of key information

The half-life in soil was not calculated however, 55 to 78% of mineralisation (gaseous CO2) were observed after 10 days at 22°C at pH 5.8 or 7.2. 67 to 82% of mineralisation are obtained after 35 days.The total amount of mineralized carbon (gas + CO2 bound to soil and biomass) is between 92.4 and 97.2% after 35 days.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

No valid ready biodegradation study in water is available however, according to the Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment Chapter R.7b page 192 (version 1.1, May 2008), the ready biodegradation can be deduced from a study on soil because the biodegradation rate is usually slower in soil than in aquatic media, specially for sorptive substances.

The mineralisation of quinoline in soil is strengthened by the study of the mobility on soil column where biodegradation was also determined over 7.5 days (5.4.4 SoilColumn Thomsen 1999).
