Acute aquatic toxicity studies are available for three trophic levels. The most sensitive organisms to the test substance were fish. In a test with Brachydanio rerio a LC50 of 8.9 mg/l was detected. In Daphnia magna an EC50 of 14.2 mg/l was determined. A test on Scenedesmus subspicatus determined an EC50 of 21.6 mg/l based on algal growth.

Chronic aquatic toxicity studies are not available. However, in accordance with "Guidance on Information Requirements and Chemical Safety Assessment Chapter R.7b: Endpoint specific guidance" (June 2017), standard testing data on long-term toxicity for invertebrates or fish should be considered if a risk has been identified after performing exposure assessment and risk characterisation based on the available (acute) data. As documented in the recent Chemical Safety Assessment (included in the CSR), all identified uses are safe (RCR<1) based on PNECs derived from aquatic short-term toxicity data. Based on the outcome of the provided risk assessment and since the registered substance is a) readily biodegradable, b) not considered PBT nor vPvB and c) has been identified as class 1 type compound (neutral organic, thus non-specific mode-of-action) according to Verhaar (1992), additional long-term data is not considered necessary to further refine the risk assessment.

The PNEC calculations are based on the results of the acute toxicity test performed with Brachydanio rerio. For the sediment and terrestric compartments the equilibrium partitioning method has been used.

The PNEC STP was calculated using the EC10 of 450 mg/l determined in a respiration inhibition test conducted with Pseudomonas putida.
