Additional information
Justification of adaptation: The data on carcinogenicity of tributyl phosphate are summarised in section 5.6 of this CSR. In general, increased incidence of hepatocellular adenomas and transitional cell tumors of the urinary bladder were observed in rats and mice.
These tumors resulted from a direct toxicity action of tributyl phosphate and its metablolites and were not associated with any genotoxic mechanisms. Overall, a threshold for chronic toxicity of tributyl phsphate, including carcinogenicity is established at LOEL (2-year, mice) =24.1 mg/kg bw/day (male) and 28.9 mg/kg bw/day (female).
In conclusion, tributyl phosphatehas harmonised classification at the EU level and it is classified asCarc. Cat 3; R40 Limited evidence of a carcinogenic effect(in accordance with Directive 67/548/EEC) and Carc.Hazard Category 2 H351: Suspected of causing cancer (in accordance with the GHS criteria of Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008).
