Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Although no experimental data is available, the substance belongs to a chemical category for which the toxicokinetics has been well studied. Quaternary ammonium cations, are positively charged polyatomic ions of the structure N(CH3)3R+, R being an acrylic ester or ether group. Unlike primary, secondary, or tertiary ammonium cations, members of this category of quaternary ammonium cations are permanently charged, independent of the pH of their solution. Unlike the tertiary ammonium congeners, they are not corrosive and have only low to moderate toxicity. Since the molecule is a highly charged cation, it will be very poorly absorbed. Cytochome p-450 is not effective with highly soluble, highly charged molecules. Any absorbed fraction will be rapidly excreted through glomerular filtration as these highly charged molecules will not be reabsorbed in the descending renal tubules. Subsequently, very little metabolism will take place.
