Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

As the substance consists of four components, the logPow values range between -0.92 and 4.73. The logPow of the main component accounts for 2.22 (Quaternary propoxylated fatty amine)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Log Kow (Log Pow):
2.22

Additional information

Octanol-water partition coefficients are commonly determined applying the HPLC or the shake-flask method. Both methods are not applicable for the substance as:

- the substance contains components which cannot be detected via common detectors hampering the determination of the partition coefficient by the means of the HPLC-method

- the substance as a whole has surface active properties hampering the reliable determination of the partition coefficient by the means of the shake-flask method as well as the HPLC-method

Therefore, the partition behaviour of the substance was preferably described by the logPow values of the individual components accounting for:

-0.92 (propane-1,2 -diole)

2.22 (Benzenemethanaminium, N-dodecyl-N,N-bis(2-hydroxypropyl)-, chloride (“Quaternary propoxylated fatty amine”))

2.3 (benzyl chloride)

4.73 (1,1'-(dodecylimino)dipropan-2-ol (“Propoxylated fatty amine”))

In the absence of measured data, the octanol-water partition coefficients for the "Quaternary propoxylated fatty amine” and "Propoxylated fatty amine" were predicted using the Estimation Program Interface EPI-Suite version 4.1. The applied estimation modell is assumed to be applicable as the molecular weight as well as structural fragments of the two substances are within the modell domain.

LogPow values for propane-1,2 -diole and bezyl chloride were experimentally determined and reported in peer-reviewed hand books or data collections, respectively. Despite no further information is available on the methodology follwed, these studies were scored as reliable and used for the assessement as the data is obtained from a collection of peer-reviewed data quoted as reliable according to the Guidance Document R.7a (ECHA, 2008).
