In an OECD guideline study, Yttrium oxide, europium doped did not show toxicity to micro-organisms up to 1000 mg/L.

The toxicity of Yttrium oxide, europium-doped to microorganisms was determined in a 3 h activated sludge respiration inhibition study carried out according to OECD guideline No. 209 and GLP principles. Microorganisms in activated sludge were exposed to the test substance at a loading rate of 10, 100 and 1000 mg/L, under static conditions in a combined limit/range-finding test. Under test conditions Yttrium oxide, europium-doped was not toxic to microorganisms at or below a loading rate of 1000 mg/L (NOEC). The EC50 exceeded a loading rate of 1000 mg/L. All criteria for acceptability of the test were met and this study was considered to be valid.
