Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The substance is degraded by > 70 % within 10 days and is considered to be “readilv biodegradable”.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Biodegradation in water:
readily biodegradable

Additional information

The biodegradability of the substance was determined in the DOC DIE-AWAY Test in the course of 28 days.

The reference item Sodium benzoate achieved a degree of degradation of > 70 % in 14 days indicating that the inoculum used had a sufficient biological activity. The toxicity controls reached a degree of degradation of 85 % resp. 87 % in 28 days. No toxic/ inhibitorv effects of the test item concentrations used were observed.

The test substance reached a degree of degradation of 61 resp. 71 % (DOC decrease) in the course of 28 days.

Since the higher concentration of the substance is degraded by > 70 % within 10 days after the time at which the biodegradation has reached 10 %, the substance is considered to be "readily biodegradable“.
