Reference
Endpoint:
partition coefficient
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
Novenber 25th, 2015
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
test procedure in accordance with national standard methods with acceptable restrictions
Reason / purpose for cross-reference:
other: solubility in water
Principles of method if other than guideline:
Partition coefficient could be estimated on the basis of the water solubility and on the basis of the solubility in octanol. It was not possible to determine absolute water solubility of test substance in water by flask method due to the high viscosity. The test substance resulted practically insoluble in octanol. Thus the determination of partition coefficient n-octanol/water cannot be performed due to character of the test substance.
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Type of method:
flask method
Partition coefficient type:
octanol-water
Analytical method:
photometric method
Type:
log Pow
Partition coefficient:
< -2
Remarks on result:
not determinable because of methodological limitations
Details on results:
Based on the water solubility test, it was not possible to determine absolute test substance water solubility by flask method due to the high viscosity of the test substance mixture with water. Mixtures practically did not flow. It was not possible to shake or stir the mixtures.
Solubility of test substance in octanol was measured by spectrophotometric method and the test substance resulted practically insoluble. Solubility of test substance is under the limit of quantification (LOQ = 1.493 mg/l) Ultra pure water. Thus the determination of partition coefficient n-octanol/water cannot be performed due to character of the test substance.

Estimation of partition coefficient
Educated guess of partition coefficient (log p) of the test substance is lower than -2.0. Educated guess of partition coefficient (log p) of the test substance is based on knowledge and experience from previous studies of similar substances.
Conclusions:
logPow < -2.0
Executive summary:

Partition coefficient could be estimated on the base of the water solubility and on the base ot solubility in octanol. Expected solubility in water should be higher than 150 g/l. Based on the results of previous study, it was known that it was not possible to determine absolute water solubility of test substance in water by flask method due to the high viscosity. The test substance resulted practically insoluble in octanol: solubility was under the limit ofquantification - LOQ : 1.493 mg/l ultra pure water. Thus the determination of partition coefficient n-octanol/water cannot be performed due to character of the test substance. Based on this information the study was not performed.

Educated guess of Partition coefficient (log P) of the test substance is lower than -2.0.

Conclusion

logPow < -2.0

Description of key information

logPow < -2.0

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Log Kow (Log Pow):
-2

Additional information

Partition coefficient could be estimated on the basis of the water solubility and on the basis of the solubility in octanol. The test substance resulted practically insoluble in octanol: the octanol-solubility was under the limit of quantification - LOQ : 1.493 mg/l ultra pure water. Thus the determination of partition coefficient n-octanol/water cannot be performed due to character of the test substance.
