Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
melting point/freezing point
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
2018
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.1 (Melting / Freezing Temperature)
GLP compliance:
no
Other quality assurance:
other: ISO 9001-2008
Type of method:
differential scanning calorimetry
Key result
Remarks on result:
not determinable
Conclusions:
The DSC record of the sample does not show any endothermic signal attributable to a change of state, like melting point is. The TGA analysis does not show independent loss on weight processes (but a constant loss along the thermogram) it is not possible to unequivocally assign every thermal phenomenon to a decomposition process.
Executive summary:

A DSC has been done and the sample has shown a first wide endothermic phenomenon starting at 59ºC with an associated heat of 129.7 J/g and a second exothermic phenomenon from 237ºC with an associated heat of 435.4 J/g. Next, a third exothermic phenomenon is observed starting at 382ºC with an associated heat higher than 3079.3 J/g.

The same sample has been analysed by TGA showing a first weight loss of 8.7% from 36ºC to 235ºC, a second weight loss of 5.1% from 235ºC to 308ºC and a third weight loss of 28.1% from 308ºC to 600ºC.

Since the TGA analysis does not show independent loss on weight processes (but a constant loss along the thermogram) it is not possible to unequivocally assign every thermal phenomenon to a decomposition process.

Conclusions:
The calculated melting point of Direct Blue 281is predicted to be ca 350°C

Description of key information
