Reference
Endpoint:
short-term toxicity to fish
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
1989
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
test procedure in accordance with national standard methods with acceptable restrictions
Justification for type of information:
The presented study was conducted with isooctadecanoic acid. The read across source substance is considered a structural analogue with regard to environmental fate and effects on aquatic organisms taking into account the physico-chemical properties (surface active properties, logKow, water solubility) and the chemical structure of the test item (potassium soap of isooctadecanoic acid) and therefore the results of the source substance are considered relevant for risk assessment. See read across document for further details.

Details on results:
- Behavioural abnormalities: After 48 hours alive fish at 10 mg/L showed a decrease in swimming ability.
- Mortality of control: none
- Effect concentrations exceeding solubility of substance in test medium: yes, but use of solubiliser Tween 80.
Sublethal observations / clinical signs:

This study determined a LC50 for the test substance of 13.4 mg/L after 48 hours. Thus it can be expected that the LC50 after 96 hours will be lower. The LC50 exceeds the water solubility of the test substance. The homogeous dispersion of the test substance in water could only be reached using the solubiliser Tween 80.

Validity criteria fulfilled:
yes
Conclusions:
The LC50 for the test substance is 13.4 mg/L after 48 hours. The LC50 exceeds the water solubility of the test substance. The homogeous dispersion of the test substance in water could only be reached using the solubiliser Tween 80.
Executive summary:

The LC50 for the test substance is 13.4 mg/L after 48 hours. The LC50 exceeds the water solubility of the test substance. The homogeous dispersion of the test substance in water could only be reached using the solubiliser Tween 80.
