Description of key information

a) The flammability of a substance is determined following the methods N.1 (UN-manual of testing) or A.10 (EU-method). However, in accordance with section 2 of REACH Annex XI, a study is technically not feasible as the substance is a liquid. The flammability of a liquid is described by the flash point.
b)In accordance with section 1 of REACH Annex XI, the study on pyrophoric properties does not need to be conducted. Experience in production and handling: substance is known to be stable at room temperature.
c)In accordance with section 1 of REACH Annex XI, the study does not need to be conducted, since the substance is solely marketed as aqueous solution and based on experience no flammability in contact with water is expected.

Justification for classification or non-classification

SMBT is solely marketed as aqueous solution contained no volatile, organic properties with a flash point below 100°C, no pyrophoric property, and no flammability in contact with water; and hence no classification according to both Directive 67/548/EEC and GHS (Regulation EC 1272/2008).
