First-aid measures

Ingestion: Obtain immediate medical attention. Do not induce vomiting. Wash out mouth with water and give 200-300 ml (half a pint) of water to drink.  Aspiration into the lungs may cause chemical pneumonitis, which can be fatal. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.

Inhalation: Remove patient from exposure, keep warm and at rest.  If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. If symptoms persist, obtain medical attention. Continued inhalation may result in dizziness, nausea, headache, loss of coordination and narcosis.

Skin Contact:  Remove  contaminated  clothing  immediately  and  wash  affected  skin  with  plenty  of  water  or soap and water. If symptoms persist, obtain medical attention.

Eye Contact: As a precaution, remove contact lenses, if worn. Irrigate with eyewash solution or clean water, holding the eyelids apart, for at least 15 minutes. Obtain medical attention.

Fire-fighting measures

General: Highly flammable. Vapour may create explosive atmosphere. The vapour is heavier than air; beware of pits and confined spaces. Heating will cause pressure rise with risk of bursting and subsequent explosion. Keep fire ex posed containers cool by spraying with water. Sensitive to static discharge.

Extinguishing Media: Foam, water spray (fog) or dry powder.

Unsuitable Extinguishing Media: Do not use water jet.

Special Fire-Fighting Procedures: Position upwind. Keep unnecessary personnel away. Move containers from fire area if you can do so without risk. Fight fire from maximum distance or use unmanned holders or monitor nozzles. Immediately withdraw in case of fire and container venting or heat discoloration  of a container.

Fire Fighting Protective Equipment: A self contained breathing apparatus  (SCBA) and suitable protective clothing should be worn in fire conditions.

Other:  Flash Point (°C): -12 [Closed cup]. Combustion may cause toxic fumes. Carbon monoxide, Carbon dioxide.

Accidental release measures

Immediately contact emergency personnel. Eliminate sources of ignition. Ensure adequate ventilation. The vapour is heavier than air; beware of pits and confined spaces.

Personal Protection:  If it is safe to do so, isolate the source of the leak. Evacuate surrounding areas. Keep unnecessary and unprotected personnel from entering. Avoid inhalation of vapours. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Wear suitable protective clothing.

Methods for Cleaning Up: Adsorb spillages onto sand, earth or any suitable adsorbent material. Sweep up carefully with non-sparking tools. Transfer to a container for disposal. Wash spill area with soapy water. Contaminated adsorbent must be removed in sealed, plastic lined drums and disposed of via

Handling and storage

Handling: Eliminate sources of ignition. Use non-sparking hand tools and explosion proof electrical equipment. Take precautionary measures against static discharges. Ensure adequate earthing. Provide adequate ventilation, including appropriate local extraction, to ensure that the occupational exposure limit is not exceeded. Avoid inhalation of vapours. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Wear suitable protective clothing. Do not eat, drink or smoke at the work place.

Process Hazards: Highly flammable. Vapour may create explosive atmosphere. The vapour is heavier than air; beware of pits and confined spaces.

Storage:  Keep container tightly closed and in a well-ventilated place. Keep in a cool place. Keep away from direct sunlight. Keep away from sources of ignition - No smoking.

Exposure controls / personal protection

General: Provide adequate ventilation, including appropriate local extraction, to ensure that the occupational exposure limit is not exceeded.

Respirators: In case of insufficient ventilation, wear suitable respiratory equipment.  (BS EN  14387:2004  or EN 405)

Eye Protection:  Goggles giving complete protection to eyes. (BS EN 166):  Nitrile rubber. ( BS EN 374)

Other: Apron or other light protective clothing, plastic or rubber gloves and antistatic boots. Provide adequate ventilation when using the material and follow the principles of good occupational hygiene to control personal exposures.

Environmental Exposure Controls:  Avoid release to the environment.

Stability and reactivity

Reactivity  Stable under normal conditions. The substance is incapable of reacting

exothermically with combustible materials.

Chemical stability  Under normal conditions of use and storage, the substance is stable. No known hazardous reactions.

Possibility of hazardous reactions  Stable under normal conditions.

Spillages of liquid product will create a fire hazard and form an explosive atmosphere.

Conditions to avoid  Keep away from heat/sparks/open flames/hot surfaces. – No smoking.

Incompatible materials  Strong oxidizing agents. Hazardous reactions with concentrated mineral acids, halogens, melted sulphur. Dissolves non-polar rubber

Hazardous decomposition products  Not expected to form during normal storage.

Combustion may cause toxic fumes. Carbon monoxide, Carbon dioxide.

Disposal considerations

Waste treatment methods  Do not empty into drains; dispose of this material and its container in a safe way. To be disposed of as hazardous waste. Disposal should be in accordance with local, state or national legislation.Contaminated adsorbent must be removed in sealed, plastic lined drums and disposed of via an authorized waste disposal contractor

Additional Information  European Waste Code:

07 02 04*– other organic solvents, washing liquids and mother liquors

08 01 17* - wastes from paint or varnish removal containing organic solvents or other

dangerous substances

The said code is a general indication only, based on the original composition of the

product and planned use. The user has the final responsibility of choosing the most

appropriate code, on the basis of the actual use of the product, any alteration or

contamination.
