Guideline:
OECD Guideline 105 (Water Solubility)
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.6 (Water Solubility)
Principles of method if other than guideline:
An attempt was made to determine the water solubility of cocoa powder using OECD method 105 (Regulation 440/2008/EEC method A6) under appropriate GLPs, however, it was not possible to develop a calibration line, or to obtain a TOC on the substance “cocoa powder”, only potentially on some components. The water solubility of cocoa powder was therefore assessed using a standard gravimetric method (results tables provided in section below).
GLP compliance:
yes
Type of method:
other: Standard Gravimetric Method

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Executive summary:

The objective of this study was to evaluate the water solubility of the test substance, cocoa powder (20 -24%). At all dilutions only a limited proportion of the substance demonstrated solubility in water. The substance is multi-component, with the components having different solubilities and ca 70-80% of the components insoluble in water. It has therefore not been possible to determine a meaningful solubility for the substance.
