Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Direct Black 22 (DBk22) is an odourless black organic powder.

No endothermic peak corresponding to melting and/or boiling was recorded in a tested temperature range from 25°C to 600°C; thermal decomposition of the test substance in connection with the loss of the mass started at the temperature 210°C (Sbovodova, 2012).

Particle size distribution showed that DBk22 is characterized by particle too large to pass in bronchi and lungs (Nebuloni, 2012).

DBk22 has a high hydrophilic character, due to the presence of three sulphonic acid groups.

The log Pow is -3.25 indicating a very high affility for water in respect than for octanol.

DBk22 is very soluble in water and the substance contains a number of different ionisable groups which don't let measure a reliable univocal pKa. In particular DBK22 is an UVCB substance for which the measurements of pKa is not technically feasible.
DBk22 does not ignite and propagate combustion; no chemical groups associated with explosive and oxidising properties are present in the molecule.

DBk22 does not meet the criteria to be considered as flammable/explosive/oxidising.
