Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Reference
Endpoint:
oxidising solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
14 February - 24 June 2004
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.17 (Oxidising Properties (Solids))
Version / remarks:
Official Journal of the European Communities L383A volume 35, 29 December 1992
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Contact with:
powdered cellulose
Key result
Sample tested:
other: all reference mixtures as specified
Parameter:
burning time of reaction over a distance of 200 mm
Remarks on result:
other: flame extinguishes after removing bumer

The reference mixture of cellulose and barium nitrate showed a burning rate of 163 mm over 200 mm, which equals to a burning rate of 1.22 mm/s.

Interpretation of results:
other: not classified according to REGULATION (EC) 1272/2008
Conclusions:
The above results clearly show that the sample/cellulose mixtures could not be ignited by means of a burner. Hence, the addition of the test substance to cellulose does not enhance the burning of cellulose. The test substance has no oxidizing properties.
