Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The substance is an insoluble organic liquid with an estimated low vapour pressure and an estimated high log P value. There is no toxicokinetic data on the substance itself. The physico-chemical properties of this substance indicate that it will be unlikely to be absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract or through the skin. But, fatty acids such as oleic acid are found naturally in foodstuff consumed by humans and animals and known to be absorbed following ingestion. The substance is not expected to be absorbed by the skin because it is poorly soluble in water and therefore unable to partition from the stratum corneum into the epidermis. There are no studies available to evaluate the systemic distribution. However, the estimated log P value would suggest that, if absorbed, it is likely that the substance would be widely distributed. Oleic acid undergoes esterification or beta-oxidation and the resulting metabolites can then feed into normal metabolic processes. Excretion is likely to be in the faeces.
