Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The study does not need to be conducted since the melting point is < 160°C

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

2,4-Dichlorophenol is a solid (see section 4.1 -Appearance/physical state/colour) at standard temperature and pressure. It has a melting point of 45 °C (see section 4.2).

Annex VII (section 7.12) of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 states that a self ignition temperature study does not need to be conducted if :

- for solids, if the substance has a melting point ≤ 160 °C, or if preliminary results exclude selfheating of the substance up to 400 °C.

This is reiterated in the ECHA guidance document - Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment, Chapter R.7a : Endpoint specific guidance in section R7.1.12.1.

Therefore, owing to the melting point of 2,4-dichlorphenol being considerably lower than 160°C, the autoflammability study is not required.
