Description of key information

A weight of evidence approach has been used to conclude on the short-term toxicity to fish: Short-term LC50 values for freshwater fish range from 10.5 to 29 mg/L

From experimental studies the most conservative study has been selected: LC 50= 10.5mg/L determined in a 14 days test.

This value is considered the most reliable LC 50 as it was based on mean measured concentration annd due to the prolonged exposure period (14d), toxicity is not underestimated. Furthermore the LC 50 of 13.21 mg/L form the OECD 236, 96h is in line with this result.

As reviewed in the RAR (2008), short-term LC50 values for freshwater fish range from 10.5 to 32 mg/L ( Deneer et al., 1988; Verschueren, 1983; Turnbull et al., 1954; Wallen et al., 1957). Juhnke & Luedemann (1978) also report an LC50 in this range i.e. 29 mg/L.

Although the LC50 value from the study by Deneer et al (1988) was determined in a 14-day test, this value is considered the most reliable LC50 as it was based on mean measured concentrations. Furthermore, due to the prolonged exposure period, toxicity is not underestimated.
