Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The parent compound 2-ethylhexyl chloroformate rapidly hydrolyses to 2-ethylhexanol, HCl and CO2.

Adsorption to soil or sediments of the hydrolysis product 2-ethylhexanol is not to be expected

The hydrolysis product 2-ethylhexanol has a low potential for evaporation

Additional information

Adsorption

The estimated log Koc values of the hydrolysis product 2-ethylhexanol (CAS 104-76-7) indicate that adsorption to soils or sediments is not expected (EPISuite, KOCWIN v2.00, BASF SE, 2021).

Henry's Law Constant

The Henry's Law Constant (HLC) of 1733 Pa m³/mol estimated for 2-ethylhexyl chloroformate (EPISuite, HENRYWIN v3.20, BASF SE, 2021) indicates high potential for evaporation. However, it is rapidly hydrolysed to 2-ethylhexanol, CO2 and HCl. The estimated HLC for 2-ethylhexanol of 1.54 Pa m³/mol at 25 °C indicates low evaporation potential (EPISuite, HENRYWIN v3.20, BASF SE, 2021).
