Additional information

The toxicity to aquatic algae of retinyl palmitate was tested according to DIN 38 412 part 9. The stock solution for this test was prepared by dissolving the test substance and acetone in dilution water. The result showed a ErC50 value of approx. 153 mg/L and a ErC10 of 4.4 mg/L after 72 hours of exposure using Scenedesmus subspicatus as an test organism. Nevertheless, since the test substance is highly insoluble in water, without using acetone as a solvent a toxic effect would be unlikely .

In conclusion, based on the result of this invetsigation retinyl palmitate is not harmful to aquatic algae.
