Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

The PBT Assessment for 4-tert-butylcyclohexanol is based on the criteria set out in the "Guideline on information requirements and chemical safety assessment, Chapter R. 11: PBT Assessment" (ECHA 2012).

Persistence:

For 4-tert-butylcyclohexanol a study on "readily biodegradability" according to the EU-Method C.4-B was conducted resulting in 90% biodegradation after 19 days based on DOC removal. Thus, the test substance does not meet the screening criterion for persistency and it is not considered to be persistent (P) or very persistent (vP).

Bioaccumulation:

4-tert-Butylcyclohexanol has a log Kow of 3.23 (OECD 107, shake-flask method). Thus, the test substance does not meet the screening criterion for bioaccumulation and is not considered to be bioaccumulative (B) or very bioaccumulative (vB).

Toxicity:

Testing of 4-tert-butylcyclohexanol on algae (Scenedesmus subspicatus) according to the EU Directive 92/69/EWG resulted in a NOEC of 14 mg/L (mean measured, geometric mean). Moreover, the test substance is not classified as CMR nor is there any other evidence for chronic toxicity according to Directive 67/548/EEC and Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 (2nd ATP) based on the available data.
