Irritation

The mean score was calculated across 3 scoring times for each animal for erythema/eschar grades and for oedema grades, separately. The mean erythema/eschar score of the three animals was 2.00 for all three animals and the mean oedema score was 2.67, 3.33 and 2.67, respectively.

Well-defined erythema was observed in all animals from the 1hour reading up to 72hours after treatment. Slight erythema was noted in all animals at the 7day examination and persisted in one animal up to 10days after treatment.

Blanching was observed in one animal 1hour after treatment.

Severe oedema was visible in all animals from the 1 to the 24 hour reading. Slight to moderate oedema was still visible in all animals at the 48 and 72 hour reading.

Scaling was noted in all animals 10 and 14 days after treatment, the end of the observation period for all animals.

Corrosion

Neither alterations of the treated skin were observed nor were corrosive effects evident on the skin.

Coloration

Slight yellow staining produced by the test item of the treated skin was observed in all animals from the 24hour reading up to 14days after treatment, the end of the observation period for all animals.

Applicant's summary and conclusion
