Description of key information

Toxicity towards the sediment compartment is unlikely.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

In accordance with section 1 of REACH Annex XI, the study does not need to be conducted as, in water, calcium chloride and sodium chloride are dissociated into calcium, sodium and chloride ions and chloride ions will not adsorb on particulate matter. The calcium and sodium ions may bind to negatively charged inorganic particles (e.g. clay), may form stable salts with inorganic anions (e.g. sulphate and carbonate ions), or may bind to negatively charge organic matter. However, both sodium and calcium are naturally present in the environment. Therefore, toxicity toward living organisms from the sediment compartment is unlikely.
