Description of key information

From the EC50 and IGC50 value predicted by the QSAR model for the micro-organism (Tetrahymena Sp), it is concluded that 5-nitrovanillin is expected to be non-toxic to microorganisms within the dose levels mentioned in the two studies

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for microorganisms:
116.72 mg/L

By applying weight of evidence approach to the target substance 2-hydroxy-4-5-methoxybezophenon sulfonic acid and the read across substance in microorganisms (Saccharomyces cerevisiae),the endpoint value was found to vary between EC50 = 116 mg/L in 48 hrs and IGC50 for (Tetrahymena pyriformis) =100mg/L to 273 mg/l in a 48 hrs. on the basis of growth inhibition effect.
