Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Two biodegradation studies are available for 2-amino-1,3-propanediol (APD), one ready biodegradability study and one investigating inherent biodegradability.

In the key study, ready biodegradability was tested following OECD guideline 301 F and according to GLP (Hales, 2011). Activated sludge was used as inoculum. By the end of the 28-day test period, biodegradation reached 107.9%, based on BOD, or 82.5%, based on CO2 evolution. Over 60% biodegradation was reached within the 10-day window.

The biodegradability of APD was also shown in the inherent biodegradability study, conducted with activated sludge and according to OECD guideline 302 C. Biodegradation reached 92.2% during the 22-day test period.

Hence, APD can be considered readily biodegradable according to OECD criteria.
