Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Based on data of the structural analogue IBU ether (CAS 262273-18-7), the IBPE is not readily biodegradable.

Additional information

There is no adequat experimental study with IBPE available for the endpoint biodegradadtion. Therefore, the data of the structural anlogue IBU- ether (CAS 262273-18-7) were used for the assesment.

An experimental study according to the OECD guideline 301 F and GLP regulations was conducted to assess the biodegradbility of IBU-ether. After 28 d, 0% of the test item was degraded by the inoculum constisting of acitvated domestic sewage sludge. The degradation was determined based on the O2 consumption of the microorganism. The functionality of the test system was confirmed by a reference substance ( 92 % degradadtion after 28 d). All validity criteria were fulfilled and the study can be seen as highly reliable. (BASF, 2021)

IBU-ether and IBPE share a common core structure and differ only by one side chain. Since IBU-ether is not readily biodegradable with 0 % degrdation in the present study, a worst case assumption is made by using these data for the assessment of the biodegradation potential of IBPE.
