Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
07 March 2006
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
Version / remarks:
1992
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Key result
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Remarks on result:
other: The test material could be ignited but was extinguished after a few seconds.

The test material could be ignited with a flame during the preliminary test. In contact with the ignition source the test material turned black. Some yellow fume was observed. The flame did not expand. After a few seconds the flame extinguished. A black incrustation remained.

Therefore no main test was performed.

Interpretation of results:
other: Not classified according to EU criteria.
Conclusions:
Under the conditions of the study the test material was considered not highly flammable.
Executive summary:

The flammability of the test material was assessed according to EU method A.10 and in compliance with GLP.

The test material in its commercial form was made into a pile of 250 mm length. An attempt was made to ignite the sample with the aim to measure the burning time over a distance of 200 mm, if applicable. The flame of a gas burner was used as ignition source.

Additional information

Flammability (solids)

The flammability of the test material was assessed according to EU method A.10 and in compliance with GLP. The study was awarded a reliability score of 1 in accordance with the criteria set forth by Klimisch et al. (1997).

Flammability in Water

In accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, Annex XI, Section 1, the study does not need to be conducted as based on experience in handling and use and the chemical structure flammability on contact with water is not to be expected.

Pyrophoricity

In accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, Annex XI, Section 1, the study does not need to be conducted as based on experience in handling and use and the chemical structure pyrophoric properties are not to be expected.

Justification for classification or non-classification

In accordance with the criteria for classification as defined in Annex I, Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008, the substance does not require classification with respect to flammability.
