Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Lithium naphthenate is a waxy brown solid at ambient temperature. In the melting point test, the test item was determined to potentially lose a volatile fraction at approximately 131°C, before rapidly decomposing, prior to melting, with further, ongoing decomposition being evident as heating of the test item continued. The substance is surface active, with a 90% saturated solution showing a surface tenstion of 44.5 mN/m. The substance has a vapour pressure of <0.0025 Pa and a density of 0.994 kg/m3.

Additional information

The physico-chemical properties of lithium naphthenate were determined in GLP-compliant, guideline studies (Envigo 2017, 2018). Experimental studies were undertaken for state of the substance, melting point, density, vapour pressure, partition coefficient, water solubility, surface tension, flash point and auto-ignition temperature. The melting point, boiling point, partition coefficient and water solubility of the test item could not be determined for the substance due to decomposition of the test item or because of its surface active properties. The particle size distribution, flammablity, explosive properties and oxidising properties endpoints have been waived.

As lithium naphthenate is a UVCB consisting of a large number of different constituents, QSAR models have been used as supporting data to predict the physico-chemical properties for representative structures within the UVCB.
