Endpoint:
auto-ignition temperature (liquids)
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
Experimental Dates: 08-10 May 2017
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Remarks:
The study was conducted according to an internationally recognized method, and under GLP. No deviation was reported. Test substance is adequately specified. Therefore full validation applies.
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.15 (Auto-Ignition Temperature (Liquids and Gases))
Version / remarks:
Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 of 30 May 2008
Deviations:
no
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
DIN 51794 (Testing of mineral oil hydrocarbons - Determination of ignition temperature)
Version / remarks:
May 2003
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Remarks:
Landesamt für Umwelt, Wasserwirtschaft und Gewerbeaufsicht (inspected on 13 & 14 October 2014, 2010 / signed on 08 April 2015)
Specific details on test material used for the study:
- Storage condition of test material: The test item was stored in a metal bottle as received in the dark from the day of receipt (01. Dec. 2016) till the 18. Jan. 2017 at room temperature and was then stored in a closed vessel (original metal bottle) at 3.0 – 8.0°C in the dark.
Key result
Auto-ignition temperature:
240 °C
Atm. press.:
ca. 101 325 Pa

Pre-Determination

Ignition at 266.6°C in vessel, with 5 drops, delay 18 s, under 99906 Pa.

Experiment  Value  Ignition delay  Drops used  Atmospheric pressure
 First test series  241°C  49 s  9   99906 Pa
 Second test series  243°C  38 s  9  100025 Pa
 Third test series  243°C  32 s  9  100025 Pa

Detailed observations are available in the study report.

The auto ignition temperature (result of determination) is the lowest value from the lowest values of the three experiments, rounded down to a whole multiple of 5 °C. Therefore, the auto ignition temperature is stated as 240°C.

Conclusions:
This parameter/method is not relevant for classification; however the information is useful regarding process safety and potential additional fire hazard.
No particular hazard is anticipated in normal conditions of storage.
Executive summary:

The substance was tested, under GLP, for its auto flammable properties, according to DIN 51794 standard (listed in EU A.15 guideline).

The auto ignition temperature was determined in three independent determinations.

The auto-ignition temperature (rounded down to a whole multiple of 5 °C) of test item was stated as 240°C.

Description of key information

No particular hazard is anticipated in normal conditions of storage.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Autoflammability / Self-ignition temperature at 101 325 Pa:
240 °C

Additional information

A fully reliable experimental study, conducted according to a recognized DIN/EU method and under GLP, is available. It is considered as a key study. The result is retained as key data.

Note that this parameter may show some variations, due to the UVCB nature of the substance.

This parameter is not relevant for classification, however the information is useful regarding process safety and potential additional fire hazard.
