Executive summary:

The biochemical oxygen demand of FAT 21036/B is determined by measuring the dissolved oxygen concentration before and after 5 days incubation at 20 °C in different test concentrations diluted in water saturated with dissolved oxygen that contains a seed of microorganisms. This test was conducted in accordance with CIBA internal guideline A-15.

Based on the findings of the study, the BOD5 of FAT 21036/B was found to be 20 mg O2/g test mat. In another study, the COD of FAT 20136/B was found to be 1230 mg O2/g, the resulting BOD5/COD ratio is 0.02 suggesting the test substance is not biodegradable.

Executive summary:

The inherent biodegradability of FAT 21036/B was determined in a 28 days study according to Zahn wellens test - OECD Guideline for Testing of Chemicals, No. 302B (A-37). The test substance was tested in a concentration of 142 mg/l. Based on the findings of the study, biodegradation after 28 days was 22 %. Hence, the test substance was found to fulfil the criteria for inherent, primary biodegradability.
