Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Sulphuric acid is a strong mineral acid that dissociates readily in water to hydrogen ions and sulphate ions (at environmentally relevant pH) and is totally miscible with water. The hydrogen ions, although not degraded as such due to their elemental nature, contribute to the pH of the local environment and are potentially mobile. The sulphate ions are incorporated into the various mineral species present in the environment. No further information is necessary.

For the purposes of the risk assessment the Koc has been set to 1 to represent the low propensity for binding to organic carbon.
