Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on the available data of the read-across substance titanium tetrachloride, classification is not warranted. However, the material contains 1,3 -dichloropropanol (CAS # 96 -23 -1) as an impurity obove the threshold of 0.1%. This substance is subject to harmonized classification and labeling in the EU, i.e. Carc. Cat. 1B, T R45 according to Annex VI of regulation 1272/2008.

Additional information

Inhalation of Titaniumtetrachloride led to pulmonary lesions reminescent of a nuisance dust effect. The tumors that resulted from these lesions therefore do not render the substance carcinogenic.
