Conclusions:
The flash point of 3-pentene nitrile is: 42°C.
It is classified as flammable according to Directive 67/548/EEC (DSD) and as flammable liquid category 3 according to Regulation (EC) N°1272/2008 (CLP).
Executive summary:

The flash point determination of pentene-3-nitrile was performed using a ABEL-PENSKY flash point apparatus in accordance with DIN 51 755/1 and 2, DIN 53 213/1, EEC Directive 92/69 Appendix V part A.9 and NF M07 -036. The GLP were stated.

The flash point of pentene-3-nitrile is 42.0°C according to this test.

Description of key information

Two studies were available with Flash point of 3PN = 42°C and 44 oC (both experimental, closed cup).
The substance is classified as flammable liquid, cat.3 (H226) according to Regulation (EC) N°1272/2008 (CLP) criteria.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flash point at 101 325 Pa:
42 °C

Additional information

Two fully reliable experimental studies were provided for the determination of the flash point of 3PN with FP 42 and 44 oC. The study with the lowest FP was selected.

This result is relevant for the classification regarding flammable properties.
