Description of key information
There are no available data for this endpoint for CAS: 96152-43-1, therefore studies from supporting, structurally similar substances have been used for read-across purposes to address this endpoint. Test results reported in original study as “effect concentrations (EC)” and “no observed effect concentrations (NOEC)” are reported in this summary as “effect loading (EL)” and “no observed effect loading rate (NOELR)”, respectively, because test results are based on nominal WAF loading rates.
The lowest EL50 value using the available data was >500 mg/L (Ward, 1994/122384-87-6) and is a "greater than" value as 50% immobilization was not seen at this level and this was the highest level tested, and this has been used for assessment purposes as it gives a worst case scenario. The NOELR for this study was reported as being 500 mg/l based on both growth rate and cell density measurements. This material is 50% A.I in oil, hence the values taken across to the Registration material are 250mg/l for chemical safety assessment.

There are no available data for this endpoint for CAS: 96152-43-1, therefore the following studies from supporting, structurally similar substances have been used for read-across purposes to address this endpoint (EC values have been adjusted to account for the presence of oil where appropriate, oil not being a part of the Registration material - see short description of key information):
- In the key study (Ward, 1994) the acute toxicity of the water accommodated fraction (WAF) of five mixtures of the test material and water to the Selenastrum capricornutum, was investigated during a study conducted at T.R. Wilbury Laboratories, Inc. The test, which was designed to determine the toxicity of the test substance was conducted according to OECD Guideline 201 (Alga, Growth Inhibition Test).
The reliability rating for this study is 1, however this is being used as read across to a supporting substance as there was no available data to fulfil this endpoint for the test material and so the reliability rating will be reduced to 2, according to the criteria of Klimisch, 1997. Nominal concentrations: 96-h EL50 >500 mg/L and 96-h NOELR = 500 mg/L based on both growth rate and cell density measurements. The study is being used as read across from a structurally similar substance (Phenol, tetrapropenyl-, sulfurized, carbonates, calcium salts, overbased CAS No. 122384-87-6/68784-26-9).
- In the Ward, 1997 study, the acute toxicity of the water accommodated fraction (WAF) of five mixtures of the test material and water to the Selenastrum capricornutum, was investigated during a study conducted at T.R. Wilbury Laboratories, Inc. The test, which was designed to determine the toxicity of the test substance, was performed from November 8 to 12, 1996 and was conducted according to OECD Guideline 201 (Alga, Growth Inhibition Test). The 96 hour EL50 (presented as “EC50” in report) for both cells per mL and growth rate is >1,000 mg/L nominal WAF loading rate. The 96 hour NOELR (presented as “NOEC” in report) is 360 mg/L nominal WAF loading rate as calculated using the number of cells per mL, and 220 mg/L nominal WAF loading rate as calculated using average specific growth rate.
The reliability rating for this study is 1, however this is being used as read across to a supporting substance as there was no available data to fulfil this endpoint for the test material and so the reliability rating will be reduced to 2, according to the criteria of Klimisch, 1997. This study is being used as read across from Phenol, tetrapropenyl-, sulfurized, calcium salts CAS No. 68855-45-8.
- The T.J. Ward, 1994 study (T.R. Wilbury Laboratories, Inc., report number: 73-CM-608) was conducted according to the OECD Guideline 201 (Alga, Growth Inhibition Test) and GLP.
The reliability rating for this study is 1, however this is being used as read across to a supporting substance as there was no available data to fulfil this endpoint for the test material and so the reliability rating will be reduced to 2, according to the criteria of Klimisch, 1997. This study is being used as read across from Phenol, tetrapropenyl-, sulfurized, calcium salts CAS No. 68855-45-8.
Nominal concentrations: 72 & 96-h EL50 >1,000 mg/L and 72 & 96-h NOELR = 1000 mg/L based on both growth rate and biomass measurements.
