Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Non oxidising

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Oxidising properties:
non oxidising

Additional information

Since, based on the chemical structure, the substance does not contain fluorine or chlorine atoms and the present oxygen atoms are bonded only to carbon or hydrogen, the oxidising potential is not deemed as a susbatnce property.

Justification for classification or non-classification

According to the CLP Regulation (EC 1272/2008), 2.1.3 section, oxidising liquid means a liquid substance or mixture which, while in itself not necessarily combustible, may, generally by yielding oxygen, cause, or contribute to, the combustion of other material.

For organic substances or mixtures the classification procedure for this class shall not apply if:

(a) the substance or mixture does not contain oxygen, fluorine or chlorine; or

(b) the substance or mixture contains oxygen, fluorine or chlorine and these elements are chemically bonded only to carbon or hydrogen.

Tert-butyl bromoacetate contains oxygen that is chemically bonded only to carbon, thus the classification does not apply.

In conclusion, the substance does not meet the criteria to be classified as oxisizing agent, according to the CLP Regulation (EC 1272/2008).
