Additional information

Test Methodology

The tests were performed per UN Manual of Tests and Criteria for Transportation of Dangerous Goods, Section 33, Classification Procedures, Test Methods and Criteria Relating to Class 4, Test N.1: Test Method for Readily Combustible Solids.

Preliminary Screening Test

The material was formed into a strip, or powder train, approximately 250 mm in length with a cross-section of approximately 20 mm wide (base) and 10 mm high. An ignition source, a hot flame (temperature determined to be 1150oC) was applied to one end of the powder train until the material ignited, or for a maximum duration of 2 minutes. Observations were made to determine if flame propagation occurs along the 200-mm length. Burning distance and burning time were also measured and recorded.

The 2,4 -Dichloro-5 -fluoropyrimidine sample melted and did not ignite when the ignition source was present. Therefore 2,4 -Dichloro-5 -fluoropyrimidine is not classified as Class 4, Division 4.1 flammable solids since there was no flame propagation along the train.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The 2,4 -Dichloro-5 -fluoropyrimidine sample melted and did not ignite when the ignition source was present. Therefore 2,4 -Dichloro-5 -fluoropyrimidine is not classified as Class 4, Division 4.1 flammable solids since there was no flame propagation along the train. As per Regulaton 440/2008 2,4-Dichloro-5-fluoropyrimidine should not be considered as highly flammable and no further testing is required.
