Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Based on long-term experiences made in the paper dyeing process as well as in actually operating paper mill WTPs, the high adsorption capacity of cationic azo paper dyes has been proven. Therefore the conduct of a laboratory-based adsorption/desorption study is being waived based on scientific grounds. For the substance registered an indicative log Koc value of 6 shall be used for risk assessment.

Additional information

As a cationic azo paper dye the substance registered is highly adsorptive to cellulose fibres. Furthermore, with reference to the observed highly efficient removal in a mechanical-biological wastewater treatment process, the high level of adsorption to activated sludge of cationic azo paper dyes in general, and of the substance registered in particular, also is evidenced.Taken together all the evidence retrieved from long-term experiences made in the paper dyeing process as well as in actually operating paper mill WTPs, the conduct of a laboratory-based adsorption/desorption study is considered as not necessary on scientific grounds and shall therefore be waived. For the substance registered an indicative log Koc value of 6 shall be used for risk assessment, i.e. the substance is considered to be highly adsorptive to sludge and soil.
