Description of key information

Examination of the structural formula for the sample indicates:

- There are no chemical groups associated with explosive properties (Table 13:1).

- The oxygen is not bound in energetic functional groups – it is bound in CO groups which do not possess explosive behaviour. The oxygen balance is -127 which is above the criteria for consideration as explosive (-200).

- A differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) test was conducted on the sample in order to determine the heat of decomposition. The heat of decomposition was found to be 172 J.g-1 which is below the criteria for consideration as explosive (500 J.g-1)

Based on this combination of factors, it is beyond reasonable doubt that the material will not exhibit explosive properties. There are no elements of the screening procedure which begin to suggest that explosive properties may be exhibited by
