The hazard assessment is based on the data currently available. New aquatic studies with the registered substance and/or other member substances of the polyol esters family will be conducted in the future. The finalised studies will be included in the technical dossier as soon as they become available, and the hazard assessment will be re-evaluated accordingly.

No studies are available investigating the toxicity to soil macroorganisms for Fatty acids C5-10 esters with dipentaerythritol (CAS 70983-72-1). Thus, in accordance to Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5 a read across to the structurally most similar analogue substances Carboxylic acids, C5-9, hexaesters with dipentaerythritol (CAS 67762-52-1) was conducted to fulfill the data requirements according to Annex VII-IX of Fatty acids C5-10 esters with dipentaerythritol (CAS 70983-72-1). This read across is justified in detail within the analogue justification in IUCLID Section 13.

The study with the source substance Carboxylic acids, C5-9, hexaesters with dipentaerythritol (CAS 67762-52-1) was conducted according to OECD 222 (GLP) using the earthworm Eisenia fetida.

The test substance was homogeneously mixed into artificial soil with the following nominal concentrations 62.5, 125, 500 and 1000 mg/kg dw soil. Earthworms were exposed to treated soil for four weeks. The cocoons and juvenile earthworms remained in the vessels for additional four weeks. Since no effects on reproduction and mortality were observed, the NOEC (56 d) was determined to be ≥ 1000 mg/kg dw.

Based on the results from a structurally related read-across substance (in accordance to Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5) which is characterized by a similar structure, it can be concluded that Fatty acids C5-10 esters with dipentaerythritol (CAS 70983-72-1) is of low toxicity to soil macroorganisms.
