Additional information

Algal growth inhibition test (OECD TG 201), 48-hour immobilization test in Daphnia magna (OECD TG 202) and 96-hour acute toxicity test in Rainbow trout (OECD TG 203) were conducted to assess the acute aquatic toxicity of Coffee, bean, roasted, ext.

Due to the low aqueous solubility and complex nature of the test item for the purposes of both tests, the test item was prepared as a Water Accommodated Fraction (WAF).

In the algal growth inhibition study conducted on Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata, there were no abnormalities detected in any of the control or test cultures.

The NOEL values for growth rate and yield were determined at 100 and 32 mg/L loading rate as WAF after 72 hours of exposure to Coffee, bean, roasted, ext., respectively. The effective loading causing 50% response (EL50) was determined at 76 and >100 mg/L loading rate WAF for and yield and growth rate, respectively.

In the acute immobilization test in Daphnia magna, Coffee, bean, roasted, ext. there was no immobilization in 20 tested daphnids and no sub-lethal effects were observed during the study period.

The NOEL after 24 and 48 hours of exposure was determined at 100 mg/L loading rate WAF. In addition, the effective loading causing 50% response (EL50) was determined at >100 mg/L loading rate WAF.

In the acute toxicity test in rainbow trout no mortality was observed in the control and all the tested doses. At 100 mg/L loading rate WAF, all fish displayed strong ventilation shortly after insertion into the test concentration. The NOEL and LOEL after 96 hours of exposure were determined at 50 and 100 mg/L loading rate WAF respectively. The 96-hour LC50 was determined to be > 100 mg/L loading rate WAF.

In the activated sludge respiration inhibition test conducted according to OECD test guideline 209 and to GLP, the EC50 value was determined at 5164 mg/L measured loading rate WAF.

Based on the experimental data from the short-term aquatic studies on microorganism, freshwater algae, daphnids and fish, Coffee, bean, roasted, ext. does not meet the criteria for classification as Acute Aquatic Category 1 under CLP Regulation (EC) 1272/2008.
