Description of key information

The PCI was calculated to be 4.7 and N,N-dibutyl-lauroyl amide was classified as moderately irritant according to the AFNOR (1982) scale.
An eye irritation study was conducted in six rabbits. After administration of a single dose of 0.1 mL into the conjunctival sac of one eye of each animal, three of the six eyes were washed with distilled water. The remaining three eyes were not irrigated.
N,N-dibutyldodecanamide was non irritant to the rabbit eye (with or without subsequent irrigation).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Skin irritation / corrosion

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
adverse effect observed (irritating)

Eye irritation

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
no adverse effect observed (not irritating)

Additional information

The results of the test show that the substance should be classified as a skin irritant

Effects on skin irritation/corrosion: moderately irritating

Justification for classification or non-classification

The Dblam was found to be moderately iritating to skin which did not clear up in 4 out of the 12 anuimals tested in the 7 to 14 day period. Hence the substance is a moderate irritant to skin.

For eye iritation there was no reaction to the eye according to the test conditions.
